I'm a bit afraid of fire in Southern California. Also LA is kinda big city for me. Would it be San Diego, I'd have no doubt.
The difference in pay is because NYC finances currently pay way more than the other industries for comparable positions. But one needs to wear the fucking tie.
yeah, i am not certain if wearing a tie and being on time (early in the morning) is worth an extra $55k for me...
out of curiosity, what would they do if you first spend 6 months being a good boy dress code wise AND working hard on demonstrating that you are a super programmer - and then suddenly start getting somewhat more liberal? fire you?
They'll start "talking"/"sending you a message", then your manager will talk to you pointing out on dress code, you're becoming "not loyal", and loyalty is one of important things over here.
personally, i'd take the nyc job just to have a chance to force a friendly confrontation. :)
there is always a chance that one can win, and if not - they'll have to fire me for dress code breach and i'll be telling that story for laughs during interviews back on the west coast! :)

NYC = bus + tie
Date: 2007-11-03 04:41 am (UTC)The one have to ride a bus all the time, and that sucks even more than a tie.
